Welcome
To our website. On our pages, you will find a wealth of information about our organization, our community, its people, and its institutions. We’d like you to think of this site as a guidebook to Crown Heights North
Our organization was founded on the issue of landmarking, but we are now so much
more than that. The Crown Heights North Association, Inc. (CHNA) is dedicated to
not only landmarking, but to cultural heritage, our neighbors, especially our seniors,
and our economic development. We began as a group organized by by Denise Brown,
Deborah Young, their neighbors and friends, meeting on the front stoop of Denise’s
house. We’ve grown to become one of Crown Heights’ most important non-profit community
organizations.
Due to much hard work, and with unprecedented community and political support, on April 27, 2007, Phase 1 of a multi-phased plan to landmark CHN was unanimously passed by the City Council, and 472 buildings became the first part of a larger Crown Heights North Historic District. Phase 2, the continuation of that effort, was calendared in 2009, and is scheduled to be completed in 2011. More phases will follow.
CHNA spearheaded the landmarking effort. Now, like Crown Heights North itself, we are growing. We’ve got big plans, and we need your participation and support. Please... have a seat, take a look, see where we’ve come from, and where we are going. Check out our photographs, our histories, our projects, and the many businesses, organizations, people and events that make up Crown Heights North.
Welcome.
