About the event
The Duane Joseph Summer Legislative Assistant Program is a unique opportunity to experience firsthand how state government and the legislative process work, while collaborating closely with your state senator.
Duane Joseph was a dedicated community leader known for his thoughtful service and deep love for the central Brooklyn community. Informed by his professional experience and Afro-Caribbean heritage, Duane's life work focused on expanding equitable access for Black communities and support for small businesses. This summer internship honors Duane's legacy by investing in the next generation of community leaders and public servants.
The program runs for 3 months, from early June to late August, on a full-time basis. Students are required to work a minimum of 35 hours per week. Due to the nature of state government work, longer hours and weekend work are required. Participants will receive a $6,000 stipend paid in bi-weekly installments following an initial two-week lag.
